AW609 2.5 D.o.F SIMULATION TABLE

LEONARDO HELICOPTERS

This -not seen before- project is presented in partnership with Semmco Inc in Texas and designed and produced for Leonardo-Helicopter in Philadelphia.

If the principles of 2 Degree Of Freedom motion tables -simulator alike- already existed, none of them could support more than a ton approx of equipment on top.

Well, we have raised the game here now being able to tip into some defined positions, the hybrid tiltrotor aircraft AW609 with a weight of 6T at the time of testing.

Leonardo-helicopters needed a mean to maintain in sturdily the aircraft into a bunch of defined positions.

We have worked with the engineering team to specify the need, research, design and produce this amazing motion table that allows them to tilt he AW609 to:

1/ Pitch 14 / Roll 0
2/ Pitch -12 / Roll 0
3/ Pitch 0 / Roll 5
4/ Pitch -12 / Roll 5
5/ Home position P0 / R0

1. A 1.5T ali chassis is equipped to receive the aircraft by the wheel chocks & straps + mooring points.

2. A Heavy duty Universal Joint coping with a dynamic load of 43K LBf is mounted on top of the chassis to articulate the ali chassis top table.

3. Two combined gearboxes (Wormgear + Planetary) tottaling a gear ratio of 3188 allow to cope with the extreme torque of 25k Nm required, actionned via 2x crank arms (double keyways) + articulated Top Arms.

4. The front hinged H Frame allows to maintain the 2 DOF and to combine them hence the “2.5 DOF”.
